Salina Chorale for the Spring 2017 Concert, "Sing! Be Joyful" | Upper Left: Director Bill Tuzicka | Lower Right: Accompanist Sue Will
The Salina Chorale is a community chorus made up of voices of all ages dedicated to the promotion of choral music, and it is open to all who are enjoy ensemble singing. This organized group of talented singers from the greater Salina community is under the direction of William Tuzicka. The Chorale is an outgrowth of the Salina Community Chorus, which was begun in 1961 under the direction of Mr. John Sample. The group was reorganized as the Salina Chorale in January 1979.
Monday evening rehearsals for the Salina Chorale are hosted by Kansas Wesleyan University, in the choir room on the east end of the second floor of Pioneer Hall, during fall and spring semesters, culminating in holiday and spring performances.
NEW MEMBERS ARE WELCOME FOR FALL 2017.
There is no tryout to sing in the Chorale; all who enjoy choir singing are welcome to join. We will be excited to meet you and to have your voice join with ours. Dues remain $30 per semester, but new members are excused from dues for their first semester with the group. New members who do not yet have concert outfits will need to pay $35 for concert clothing. Concert dress instructions will be given. NOTE: “New Member” includes those first-time individuals who, in the past, may have started rehearsing with us but had to drop out before the concert performance.
PLEASE TAKE NOTE: Rehearsals for the fall semester will begin on Monday, Aug. 21. Singers are asked to arrive each week at 6:45 p.m. to allow time for checking in, getting your new music, finding a seat and hearing any Chorale announcements. We begin warming up and singing promptly at 7 p.m. One or two additional rehearsals are scheduled during concert weeks.

The concert program, selected by director Bill Tuzicka, included well-known spiritual works such as “Just A Closer Walk With Thee” arranged by Ed Lojeski; “Down By the Riverside” by John Rutter; “Down to the River to Pray” from the feature film “O Brother, Where Art Thou?;” and the song “All Rise,” incorporating the hymn “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty,” by Babbie Mason; as well as beautiful songs of inspiration rarely performed by ensemble choirs in this area.
The Salina Chorale joined the Kansas Wesleyan University Philharmonic Choir to form the chorus for the 2016 Christmas Festival concerts of the Salina Symphony on Saturday evening, Dec. 17 and Sunday afternoon, Dec. 18, in the Stiefel Theatre.
The large sanctuary at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina, KS, was packed for the Salina Chorale's 2016 Carols of Christmas concert on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016. An invitation was extended for the Salina Chorale to return in December 2017 for the next Carols of Christmas concert.
The Salina Chorale had a wonderful audience for its Spring 2016 concert, "The British Invasion," presented at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, 2016 in the Community Room of Trinity United Methodist Church, 901 E Neal Ave., Salina, KS.
The Salina Chorale joined the KWU Choir and area high school choirs to form a mighty 200-voice chorus for the 60th Anniversary Gala Concert of the Salina Symphony at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, 2016. The chorus and soloists performed "O Fortuna" (from "Carmina Burana"), "How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place" by Brahms, "Duel of the Fates" (from "Star Wars") and "Awakenings."
