A Note from Our President
Dear Friend of the Salina Chorale,
What a pleasure it will be for us to welcome you on Dec. 4, 2016, to our 37th holiday season of choral ensemble music. My fellow singers, our director Bill Tuzicka, accompanist Sue Will, and I have looked forward to sharing this experience with you.
Christmas is a special time of the year and the music we hear ranges from the silly songs of Santa and Grandma getting run over by a reindeer to the deep sublime songs which move the heart and speak of a silent night, a holy night - “O Magnum Mysterium” – a blessed nativity, a virgin who gives birth to one who is the savior in the Christian tradition.
Our concert will feature music especially selected by our director with a focus on the Holy Madonna, Mary the mother of Jesus. Through music by a wide selection of writers. such as Rachmaninoff with his “Opus 37 No. 6,” Pachelbel and his “Magnificat,” music by Amy Grant and John Denver along with many extraordinary and traditional Christmas pieces, we will celebrate in song, the softer side of the Almighty.
This aspect nurtures us as we all seek to remain hopeful, to be at peace and to have love for one another in a world much in need of healing.
“Sing We Noel, Heaven is near, O do not fear, the angel said, the Christ is here!”
We hope to inspire you with our ensemble renditions. We are also greatly appreciative of our sponsors who make our concerts possible by placing their ads in our programs. Please take time to look over the variety of offerings that these individuals and businesses have to share with you and our community. And, why not consider placing your own ad in our programs in 2017. See our website www.salinachorale.com for information on how you may participate.
We give special recognition and homage to Jim and Glen Headley for their personal and company’s support of the Chorale. For more than 30 years, Headley’s Men’s Clothing Store has kept our Chorale men dressed to the nines in our concerts, helping to make us look as good as we sound (smile). The store will close its doors on Dec. 31, 2016. Thank you, guys, for all the love!
Our thanks to our Director and Accompanist, our Board of Directors, Vocal Section Leaders, Program and Website Designers, Ticket Sellers, Money Receivers and all who have worked so hard this semester to bring us to this place. And speaking of place, we send out a huge thank you to Preston Sauers and the Sacred Heart Cathedral, who warmly invited us to use their gorgeous church for our 2016 Christmas concert, and of course, to all the dear Sacred Heart people who will be providing our reception goodies after the concert. We appreciate you and thank you for your kindness. We all love to snack!
As we look forward to next year, please pencil the Salina Chorale in on your 2017 to-do calendar as a must see and hear event for our 38th Spring and Winter concert series.
And now, enjoy the concert as much as we enjoy sharing it with you, and have a wonder-filled Christmas and a bright, happy New Year!
